A Golden Star:
Remembering Lucas James Roland
In 2nd grade, Lucas earned the most miles, running 227 miles that school year.
National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a time to honor the brave young souls who have battled and continue to fight against this formidable disease. One such inspiring individual was Lucas James Roland, a member of 100 Mile Club who tragically passed away in January. His dedication and spirit continue to inspire us all.
Lucas was more than just a student; he was a beacon of hope and a testament to the human spirit. His unwavering determination and positive outlook in adversity made him a beloved Camino Real ES community member in Jurupa Valley, CA. The school plans to name the school track The Lucas James Roland Track in his honor and legacy to inspire with his GOLDEN running spirit.
The family turned all of Lucas’ 100 Mile Club and school tees into a quilt.
As a member of 100 Mile Club, Lucas embodied the spirit of physical fitness and healthy living. Despite the challenges posed by his illness, he remained committed to his goals, finding solace and strength in running. His participation in 100 Mile Club symbolized his resilience and reminded us that even in the darkest of times, it’s possible to find joy and purpose.
Lucas’s legacy will live on through the memories of those who knew and loved him. His story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting children battling cancer, raising awareness about this devastating disease, and advocating for research that will one day lead to a cure. This September, Team FOREVER LUCAS JAMES will participate in the Dash 4 Hope event to honor his legacy as a runner. Amanda Ortiz (Lucas’s mom) shares, “I know he will watch us all from heaven, and his spirit will run with us. So let’s do it for all cancer kids in the fight, survivors or angels because they all matter.”
Lucas and Dad Richard Roland are celebrating his MILEstones at the 100 Mile Club assembly.
Let us honor the memory of Lucas James Roland by continuing to champion the cause of childhood cancer awareness and by striving to create a world where no child has to endure the pain and suffering of this terrible disease. Please consider donating to Team FOREVER LUCAS JAMES.
